South Burnett CTC: Sober Living Support

The Sober Living Support Program will promote the advice, advocacy, linkages and network of support to individuals and families that encourage people to address the issues that cause problem drinking and to build the self-esteem and personal qualities of individuals and families to make positive life choices.

The program assists and supports families to live sober lives by providing assistance to overcome issues which lead to problem drinking.  Some of the assistance is through court support; transport; domestic violence referrals; community living support and information, advocacy and referral.  The service provides home visits to families who require support.

Sober Living Support can also be through the provision of food and fuel to assist people in times of financial crisis.   Assistance can be accessed once every three months and is individually assessed.   People accessing this support are also assisted through support, information and referrals to avoid crisis situations.

A new aspect of the program includes Lifeskills Development. This aspect of the program includes providing a dedicated team member to assist community members with the following activities:

• Gain the appropriate identification required for Centrelink, housing, financial institutions etc.
• Gain drivers licences including:

o Advocacy with Job Services Australia, Youth Services and other service providers to gain assistance in obtaining L license and accessing driving school hours
o Applying for log book exemption hours on a case by case basis
o Accessing a volunteer pool of drivers to assist individuals with L plates and a minimum of three driving school lessons, accumulate the required hours to gain their P plates
