Angel Tree for Children Affected by Crime

14th December 2012

No child should miss out on experiencing the pleasure of receiving, especially at Christmas, regardless of their circumstances.

Caring for children affected by crime is a project called Angel Tree where a present is purchased for the child or children of a parent who is serving time.

The program is co-ordinated in partnership with the Prison Chaplain, Kevin Dailly and the South Burnett CTC Employment Services and approved by Queensland Corrective Services.

For the second year in a row, staff from both the Gympie and Kingaroy CTC offices voluntarily contributed to providing an appropriate gift for one of the 31 children engaged in the program whose incarcerated parent does not have the means to provide a gift.

This year CTC staff pooled their resources  to purchase a swing set for a family of four children as well as individual gifts for children in the program.

The staff  at both CTC offices come alive with the spirit of Christmas as employees select a child from the list and go in search of the perfect present, gift wrap it and place the child’s name on the tag and present it to the co-ordinator for special delivery.

Today CTC is a multi-faceted, community owned, not-for-profit organisation that continues to address the needs of disadvantaged people throughout the South Burnett and into our neighbouring communities across a wide range of programs.

The Angel Tree program complements CTC Employment Services objectives to assist the direct relief of poverty, suffering, distress, misfortune, disability and helplessness in our community.
CTC Staff have provided gifts for children affected by crime and working in collaboration with other departments have helped make this Christmas just that little bit special for children.
