Gympie Employment in the Community

8th August 2014

The Tin Can Bay P–10 State School has recently joined the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden National Program.  As a joint community initiative to enable the garden to continue to ‘grow’, CTC Employment Services Gympie has kicked off a Work for the Dole project to continue the construction of the all-important garden area at the school.

Special guest Costa Georgiadis from ABC’s Gardening Australia was present to launch the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden at the school on Monday 14th July.  Costa spoke with the children about the importance and fun in learning how to grow your own food, and the magic of cooking this fresh produce.   He addressed the crowd with great enthusiasm. Invited guests included various community groups and government t representatives who assisted through consultation during the entire planning process of the proposed program.  Costa was impressed with the collaborative effort from all involved to get such a worthwhile program underway for the food growers (the children) of the future.  His energy inspired all those present and made everyone feel proud.

The aim of the project is to engage job seekers in a work-like environment, whilst developing work ethic, team skills and an appreciation for being part of a worthy program.  Job seekers will increase their networks and exposure to the wider Tin Can Bay job market and their progression will be noticed amongst the entire community.
