Despite the heat, the Nanango community turned out in great numbers for yesterday’s Emergency Services Display, with approximately 150 people attending a fantastic afternoon of connection, learning and fun.
Families enjoyed a free sausage sizzle, lucky door prizes, and the opportunity to meet and engage with local emergency services in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Brett, Liana, Kelli, Tayler, Joan, Trish and the Get Set for Work crew for their support on the day. A special mention also to Josh Miller, who brought along two young men from the Hostel-your help throughout the event was greatly appreciated and did not go unnoticed.
While the Queensland Ambulance Service was unable to attend after being called out to an emergency, the event still saw an impressive turnout from other services across the region.
Queensland Police Service was strongly represented, with Senior Sergeant Jason Hopgood travelling from Toowoomba with the Mobile Police Beat. Senior Constable Jade Miller from the local Highway Patrol ran a popular activity testing children’s running speeds-quickly becoming a crowd favourite. Officers from Nanango and Blackbutt stations also joined in, delighting kids by sounding the sirens and engaging with families.
Queensland Fire Service, SES and the Rural Fire Brigade were also on site, offering valuable information, resources, and plenty of interactive moments for attendees. There was even a bit of friendly rivalry between Police and Fire crews over who had the loudest sirens-keeping everyone entertained throughout the afternoon.
Events like this highlight the strength of our local community and the importance of building connections between residents and the services that support them.
Planning is already underway for next year, with hopes to make the event even bigger—including exploring opportunities to involve Defence Force recruiting.
