Safer Pathways

About

Safer Pathways is an early-intervention Kickstarter program for young people aged 8–17 who are exhibiting anti-social behaviours. The program focuses on early engagement, working with young people and their families before risks escalate, and bringing the right supports together at the right time.

Safer Pathways supports young people to build safety, stability, skills, and positive pathways at home, school, and in the community.

Eligibility

Young people 8–17 years old who are:

  • At risk of entering the criminal justice system.
  • Disconnected from family, friends, and support networks.
  • Disengaged from school, training or employment.
  • Disconnected from cultural connections.
  • Displaying anti-social behavior.
  • At risk of harm.

Referrals can be made by schools, Child Safety, Youth Justice, community organisations, families, or by self-referral.

Participation is voluntary and requires agreement from the young person and their family.

How

Safer Pathways will provide individualized support to meet the needs of the young person through:

  • Intensive 1:1 support for the young person.
  • Holistic support for families to address barriers and challenges.
  • Linkages to relevant services as required such as family and domestic violence, mental health support, or medical services.
  • Advocacy to address barriers to school engagement such as uniforms, transport, or school supplies.
  • Supporting cultural connections.
  • Ensuring day-to-day needs are met such as shelter, food, and clothing.
  • 10-week age-appropriate group activities to encourage positive relationships and everyday life skill building.
