Strong turnouts for Seniors Stronger Together across our communities

CTC’s Seniors Stronger Together program continues to bring older people together across the South Burnett and surrounding communities, with strong attendance at regular HOY events and social activities.

For people aged 60 and over, staying socially connected matters. In regional communities, regular local activities provide an important opportunity to get out of the house, see familiar faces, build friendships and remain connected to community.

And our recent attendance numbers show just how valued these opportunities are.

June – strong community participation

June saw seniors gathering across several communities:

  • 17 June – Wondai HOY – 18 people
  • 24 June – Seniors HOY, Centacare Kingaroy – 30 people
  • 30 June – Seniors Cent Sale, Nanango – 52 people

That means at least 100 recorded attendances in June alone, before the Wondai and Kumbia HOY numbers are added.

The strong participation continued through July and August:

  • 28 July – Kumbia HOY – 18 people
  • 4 August – Blackbutt HOY – 30 people
  • 12 August – Kingaroy HOY – 30 people
  • 19 August – Wondai HOY – 26 people
  • 26 August – Yarraman HOY – 26 people

Across these five events, that is 130 attendances in communities from Kumbia and Kingaroy to Blackbutt, Wondai and Yarraman.

Combined with the June attendance figures available so far, that represents at least 212 attendances across our recent Seniors Stronger Together activities, with two June event figures still to be added.

For older people living in regional communities, opportunities for regular social connection close to home are important. Programs like Seniors Stronger Together create welcoming spaces where people can enjoy themselves, meet others and maintain connections within their community.

Strong and consistent attendance across multiple towns demonstrates the value of continuing to provide accessible, local opportunities for older people to participate in community life. This is also a great opportunity to check, connect them to other services or organisations or do referrals.
