Meet Benjamin, Kadek and their three beautiful children, who faced the unimaginable challenge of homelessness last March
Evicted from their rental, they found themselves with nowhere to go, carrying the weight of uncertainty. Winter set in, and with a heavily pregnant wife, the struggle was immense. Benjamin reached out for help, encountering obstacles in finding agencies willing to assist. The Department of Housing provided temporary relief, offering motels and necessities, but the journey was far from easy. Seven motels in six months, often lacking a kitchen, posed challenges for a growing family.
Feeling unwanted and struggling with mental health concerns, Benjamin and Kadek persevered. The turning point came when they received a call about a house three hours away. Relocating to Kingaroy, they connected with South Burnett CTC, where their lives began to take a positive turn.
Upon arrival, the Salvation Army assisted with furniture, and CTC made them feel welcomed. What stood out for Benjamin and Kadek was the respect and dignity they received. Engaging in various programs, they found support tailored to their needs. Their child now benefits from an NDIS package, and the money management program proved life-changing.
“We learned to save money, quit smoking, and create a loving space for our children,” shares Benjamin. Despite occasional setbacks, CTC, especially Di, provided unwavering support.
Both now employed in Kingaroy, Benjamin and Kadek navigate work shifts to save on daycare costs. Their message to those facing adversity: “Come talk to CTC. Their passion is people, especially giving everyone a fair go. They helped us navigate the right supports around substance abuse, homelessness, mental health, domestic violence and concerns around our children.”
This Christmas, Benjamin and Kadek celebrate resilience, courage, and hope. No longer homeless, they embrace a supportive community that rallied behind them.
Benjamin and Kadek wanted to share their story to say thank you to those that helped them and inspire hope for others.
